We believe that Literacy must be meaningful, enjoyable and provide purpose for communication, empowering all learners to function effectively in their daily lives. Literacy is central to the daily school program. Each class has a daily Literacy block consisting of reading and writing workshops and structured listening and speaking activities. Each team of teachers is led by a literacy leader who meets regularly with the teams and participates in classroom activities. Emphasis is put on explicit teaching and focussed groups based on student needs. The procedures in place ensure a high quality teaching and learning program in the literacy area. Additional assistance programs include Reading Recovery and small intervention groups which are designed to cater for the specific needs of the students.
